The Voice of Reason

Amid the panic of the hour, with governments creating, borrowing and spending money like drunken sailors, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has emerged as the conscience of the developed world.

....(S)he is standing like a rock in the tempest, urging people to be prudent.

....Of all the leaders participating in this week's G-20 meeting in London, she is the only one who has reminded us of the origins of the current troubles and why the remedy favored by most governments is dangerous. "It happened because we were living beyond our means. ... After the Asian crisis and after 9/11, governments encouraged risk taking in order to boost growth" by dumping ever-cheaper money into the financial system.
....One would think that Merkel is speaking from the comfort of a country that is being spared much of the punishment that others are receiving. Actually, as the world's No. 1 exporter, Germany's economy is on course to contract by 4.5 percent this year. No economy will be more affected than Germany's, in absolute terms, by the 9 percent drop in international trade forecast by the International Monetary Fund.

This is one tough lady who has her head screwed on the right way. I hope that she voices her opinion in the strongest terms possible.

I agree with her about monetary aid to Africa - but then it is easy when your stomach is full.

Africa needs help but as follows:-
1)Stop judging African leaders by different standards to ours. Hold them accountable and condemn them for their abuses
2)stop patronising Africans - make them take responsibility for their actions
3)educate them on population control and the resultant benefits from smaller educated families
4) educate them on all things we take for granted such as farming, conservation of land, maintenance of hygenic water supplies, etc...And not by liberal left 'white bwana' UN fags. Farmers, engineers, etc will do it properly.
5)Crack down instantly and severely on the murderous gangs of thugs, that call themselves 'liberation forces' and anything else, who forment inhumane violence on their citizens - and anybody who supplies them with arms.
6)Punish corruption and punish anyone who uses it to get an advantage in obtaining concessions to be able to rape aAfrica of its wealth.

And then use financial aid only once any country is compliant with the above, make it targeted and controlled by the donor. (Bill Gates Foundation is doing this).

I have not mentioned health care as it is very ineffectual and only helps a very small fraction of Africans...and that Bono, Geldof, etc, are twats.
