Be Afraid, Europe, Very Afraid

Iran launches first rocket into space

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, said today that there is "no reverse gear" on his country's nuclear programme, as Tehran announced that it had successfully launched a rocket into space.

Iranian state television quoted Mohsen Bahrami, the head of the aerospace research centre, as saying Iran had fired a missile capable of reaching space.

The programme's deputy head, Ali Akbar Golrou, described it as a "sounding rocket", which is used only for research purposes, and said it reached an altitude of 150 kilometres (93 miles) but did not stay in orbit

Be afraid Europe you are now in their range.
