SELFLESS NARCISSISM & THE POLITICAL LEFT

Dr Sanity has a wonderful way with words. Most of her writings about the Democrats can also be applied to Labour.

She notes that "the typical leftist collectivist almost always considers his or her actions as altruistic and selfless, yet interestingly, the end result of their selflessness often causes greater harm for other individuals and for society in general".

And she divides the evil of self into two groups:

"The unopposed Grandiose Self gives rise to tyrants big and small; to megalomaniacal dictators and dictator wannabees; to unbelievable corporate greed and plundering; and to the typical criminal sociopath in all his/her glory. The damage that such individuals do in individual relationships, in business, in politics and in all spheres of human behavior, is well documented and appreciated in the world".

"Laws are set up to protect people from victimization at the hands of these unrestrained grandiose monsters, unable to see other people as distinct individuals separate from their own self. These "others" exist only as the means to achieving their own desires".

"But far more menacing to humanity is the unrestrained Idealizing side of the self that seeks only the utopian and the perfect; because that person has access to an unlimited potential to cause human misery and death. This destructiveness of this collectivist mindset dominated the 20th century. The countless dead bodies that are the direct result of the malignant narcissism of people who meant well and whose intentions are always so good and sincere are quickly forgotten because they died as some nations, religions, ideologies attempted to implement their IDEAL in the real world.

This second type of evil is more subtle, and it derives from the ethics of the IO (idealised object) side of the self. The IO also does not see other people as distinct individuals with needs and desires of their own, but only as fodder for the expression of an IDEAL; or as pawns for the wishes of a deified GS (grandiose self). People with this narcissistic defect completely reject the needs of the individual and enslave him or her to the service of their IDEAL. Eventually, the enslavement--whether religious or secular--snuffs out human ambition, confidence, energy, self-esteem, and life.

I would consider Robert Mugabe, with his sociopathic selfishness, as good example of an unapposed Grandiose Self and the Labour party and it's leaders, with their self-serving selflessness, as personification of the Idealising side of self.

She goes on further to say:

"There are two kinds of "selflessness". One derives from the humility and insight that comes when both the grandiose and idealistic sides of the self work together. This psychological synthesis leads to true benevolence and is psychologically healthy for both the individual and the society in which they live.

And then there is the kind of narcissistic and self-serving "selflessness" we see regularly displayed by the thoughtless, irresponsible, and destructively pandering Democrats; as well as most of the morally righteous, posturing members of the political left".

Blogs mark the first 10 years

"Check this out. Amazing!" It took just a brief sentence, and after those four words a revolution followed.

The first entry on Scripting News effectively ushered in the first blog 10 years ago. In the intervening years, these online diaries have been touted as the future of media, labelled "pathetic drivel", and caused court cases, prison sentences and international incidents. But love them or loathe them, bloggers around the world have ensured incredible growth for the medium. The latest figures indicate an estimated 70-million blogs in existence, with about 1,5-million posts being written every day.

Scripting News, written by the prickly New Yorker Dave Winer, began with a whimper rather than a bang: his first entries were little more than a list of websites he had visited that day. But despite its lacklustre launch, the site became one of a small coterie of online destinations that began the revolution.

The word "blog" was not officially coined until two years later, but over the past week bloggers have gathered around the web to celebrate this ad-hoc anniversary.

The Pirates of Tehran

A sensible commentary on the British hostages and their release at http://www.redstate.com/stories/foreign_affairs/the_pirates_of_tehran

Maybe it's because military action won't be needed or maybe it's just because the ordeal won't drag on and on, but the world is breathing easier now. A lot of folks are happy. The problem, as I see it, is that Ahmadinejad seems to be the happiest.

The loss of face by the British and their inability to stand up to a dangerous mob of religious fundamentalists shows us just how far 'western appeasement' has got us. Military might, in sane and sensible hands, as a deterrent to unstable and hysterical oppressive regimes such as Iran and North Korea remains an essential tool in maintaining peace.

On the useless hand-wringing UN and the appeasing Europeans he has this to say:-

The UN Security Council summoned its vaunted multilateral greatness to issue a swift statement of sincere uneasiness. The EU, which has pressured Britain to rely on Europeans for mutual defense instead of the US, wouldn't even discuss economic sanctions that might disrupt their holidays. Even NATO was AWOL.

On the MSM:-

Ahmadinejad must be particularly pleased to see "deep thinking" journalists making the case that American actions in Iraq were the true cause of the kidnappings. To believe this, all you have to do is ignore the history of the Iranian Revolution, which has been in the extortion business ever since it took power.

And in conclusion:-

We need to understand this and use every means at our disposal, starting with serious and painful international sanctions, to prevent Iran's rulers from becoming the nuclear-armed blackmailers they want to be.

The Western world should not allow these grubby little men get away with this. Like children, they must be punished for their actions so that they can learn about the consequences of such provocative behaviour. I fear, that once again, there will be weasel worded appeasement from the left-wing traitors and the MSM.
